Samsung Electronics retains its top position in the global smartphone market despite a decline in shipments.
Samsung Electronics has maintained its leadership in the global smartphone market during the third quarter of 2026, according to recent industry data.
Despite a general decline in shipments across the industry, Samsung shipped 57.8 million smartphones from July to September, marking a 5% decrease compared to the previous year. This performance accounted for 22.7% of the global smartphone shipments, solidifying Samsung's position as the largest vendor in the market.
The decline in overall smartphone shipments was significant, with a reported 20% drop in the global market during the same period. However, Samsung's resilience can be attributed to strong sales of its Galaxy A series, which has been well-received in the entry-level and midrange segments.
Additionally, the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series in August contributed to Samsung's robust performance in the premium smartphone segment. Apple Inc. followed closely behind, shipping 56.5 million smartphones, which remained unchanged from the previous year.
Samsung's diverse product lineup and strategic response to market demands have helped the company navigate through a challenging competitive landscape, showcasing its adaptability and strength in the tech industry.
