S-Oil Corp., South Korea's third-largest refiner, reported a remarkable rise in its net profit for the third quarter of this year. The company attributed this surge to improved margins in refining and lubricants, reflecting a robust performance in the energy sector despite the volatility in global oil prices.
For the three months ending in September, S-Oil's net profit soared to 1.43 trillion won (approximately $1.1 billion), a dramatic increase from just 63.2 billion won during the same period last year. The company highlighted that high oil prices and enhanced export refining margins were key factors behind this impressive financial turnaround.
Operating profit also witnessed a striking increase, jumping over sixfold to 1.4 trillion won from 229.22 billion won a year earlier. Sales rose significantly by 42.2% to reach 11.96 trillion won, up from 8.42 trillion won in the previous year.
Looking ahead, S-Oil anticipates that refining margins will remain elevated in the fourth quarter, supported by low global inventories and strong seasonal demand for heating oil. The lubricants market is expected to stay tight due to ongoing production disruptions and logistical challenges.
In addition to its strong quarterly performance, S-Oil is progressing with its ambitious 9.26 trillion-won petrochemical complex under the Shaheen project, which is expected to start production in early 2027. This facility will enhance S-Oil's capabilities in producing key petrochemical products, further solidifying its position in the market.
