LG Chem has announced its intention to begin clinical development of a personalized mRNA cancer vaccine by 2029. The company plans to leverage artificial intelligence to accelerate drug discovery and identify patients who would benefit most from the treatment.
This strategy was revealed at the inaugural LG AI Bio Conference held in Seoul, where Son Jee-woong, the president of LG Chem's life sciences division, emphasized the importance of AI in modern drug development. The company is developing AI models to identify biomarkers that predict treatment responses, which is crucial for its precision oncology approach.
The personalized cancer vaccine will utilize AI to predict patient-specific neoantigens, which can stimulate immune responses against cancer cells. Preclinical testing is scheduled for 2027, with clinical trials targeted for 2029.
Son noted, "Future competitiveness in drug development depends not only on finding the right drug, but also on identifying the right patient through AI." This innovative approach is expected to significantly enhance the efficacy of cancer treatments, marking a pivotal step in oncology.
The conference also highlighted the growing role of AI in biotechnology, with various speakers discussing advancements in drug development facilitated by AI technologies.
