LG Chem is making significant strides in integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into its drug development strategy, aiming to improve success rates across its entire pipeline.
At the recent 2026 LG AI Bio Conference, co-hosted with LG AI Research and Flagship Pioneering, the company showcased its vision for utilizing AI in precision oncology. The conference attracted around 140 participants from various biotech firms, emphasizing the importance of AI in clinical development.
Son Ji-woong, president of LG Chem's life sciences division, stated, "AI is evolving from a tool for drug development into the core engine that determines competitiveness." This highlights the company's commitment to not only discovering effective drugs but also identifying the right patients for treatment.
LG Chem is also advancing its AI-based personalized messenger RNA cancer vaccine, with plans for preclinical trials by 2027 and full clinical development by 2029. The integration of AI is expected to transform the productivity of drug development significantly, particularly in late-stage clinical patient selection and strategy formulation.
