Hyundai Glovis has announced a significant expansion of its operations at the Philadelphia port by securing additional yard space and a dedicated berth. This move aims to strengthen its logistics reach along the Atlantic coast.
On October 19, Hyundai Glovis signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority and a local developer. This agreement will facilitate the development of the port and the operations of a finished-vehicle terminal.
Scott Cornell, CEO of Glovis America, highlighted the importance of this expansion at a recent event attended by Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker. The agreement will allow Hyundai Glovis to operate a new dedicated berth for car and truck carriers, enhancing its terminal operations.
Since 2010, Hyundai Glovis has been involved in finished-vehicle logistics at the Port of Philadelphia. The company previously opened a 640,000-square-meter finished-vehicle yard in 2019. With the new agreement, the site contract has been extended to 2056, and the logistics area will increase to 1,120,000 square meters, allowing for the storage of approximately 37,600 vehicles.
Hyundai Glovis plans to broaden its logistics services, incorporating car carrier terminal operations alongside its existing finished-vehicle transport and storage services. The company aims to enhance its integrated logistics services across ocean shipping, terminal operations, storage, and inland transport, thereby improving its competitiveness in North America.
