Hyundai Glovis has signed an agreement to enhance its logistics operations at the Port of Philadelphia.
Hyundai Glovis has taken a significant step in expanding its vehicle logistics operations by signing a memorandum of understanding with the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority and a local developer. This agreement marks the company's entry into terminal operations, which aims to bolster its logistics capabilities in the region.
The expansion will include the construction of new vehicle handling facilities and dedicated berths for car carriers, as well as an extension of the company's existing site lease until 2056. This strategic move is expected to enhance the company's operational efficiency and capacity at the port.
Hyundai Glovis has been operating at the Port of Philadelphia since 2010 and opened its 640,000-square-meter Southport vehicle yard in 2019. The current logistics facilities cover approximately 1 million square meters, accommodating 33,600 vehicles. With the new expansion, these figures will increase to 1.13 million square meters and 37,600 vehicles.
The Philadelphia port has proven to be a vital alternative for Hyundai Glovis, especially during disruptions such as the collapse of Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge in 2024. The company plans to further integrate its ocean shipping, terminal handling, storage, and inland transport services, while also expanding its handling of commercial vehicles and project cargo.
A company official stated, "Hyundai Glovis will develop Philadelphia into a key hub in the US East Coast supply chain, providing customers with stable and efficient integrated logistics services."
