Hyundai Glovis is set to enhance its vehicle logistics at the Port of Philadelphia.
Hyundai Glovis, the logistics arm of South Korea's Hyundai Motor Group, is actively pursuing an expansion of its vehicle logistics operations at the Port of Philadelphia. This move underscores the company's commitment to bolstering its logistics network in the region.
Recently, Hyundai Glovis signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with PhilaPort and a local developer. The agreement aims to facilitate the development of new automobile and container terminals at the port. Under this partnership, Hyundai Glovis plans to secure a dedicated berth for car carriers and develop additional vehicle storage facilities.
The company has been operating vehicle import and export logistics services at the Philadelphia port since 2010, managing around 1 million square meters of logistics space. With the planned expansion, this area is expected to grow to approximately 1.12 million square meters, increasing storage capacity from 33,600 to 37,600 vehicles.
Hyundai Glovis aims to enhance its competitiveness in North America by integrating various logistics services, including maritime transportation and inland logistics. The company also envisions Philadelphia as a key logistics hub on the U.S. East Coast, especially after disruptions at the Port of Baltimore.
The announcement was made during a ceremony attended by Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker, and other officials, marking a significant step in the port's expansion project.
