The U.S. has sanctioned 10 individuals and one entity linked to North Korean IT fraud schemes.

On October 28, the United States announced sanctions against ten individuals and one entity involved in North Korean IT worker fraud schemes. These actions are part of ongoing international efforts to combat North Korea's illicit activities aimed at funding its weapons programs.

The U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control stated that the sanctions target networks that facilitate North Korean IT workers in obtaining employment at legitimate companies, including those in the U.S., by using stolen identities and fraudulent documents.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent emphasized that the North Korean regime continues to exploit American companies through these fraudulent activities, which involve sensitive data and significant extortion payments. Among those sanctioned are two Russian nationals accused of aiding cryptocurrency transactions for North Korean operatives, alongside eight North Koreans involved in overseas IT operations.

Additionally, the sanctions included the First Financial and Technical Development Center, a North Korean entity operating in Russia that allegedly generates millions for Pyongyang through sophisticated IT and cryptocurrency operations. Earlier this month, the U.S. Justice Department reported that North Korean IT schemes had impacted over 70 American companies, resulting in substantial revenue linked to the regime.
