South Korea's Foreign Minister Cho Hyun expressed optimism regarding the potential for dialogue between North Korea and the United States. This statement came in light of Kim Jong-un's recent visit to Dandong, China, where discussions may have taken place.
During a parliamentary audit, Cho responded to inquiries about the possibility of North Korea and the U.S. resuming talks. He noted, "I believe that is a possibility," highlighting the geopolitical dynamics at play during Kim's visit.
The visit included meetings with senior Chinese officials, including Wang Huning, and was seen as an effort to strengthen ties between Pyongyang and Beijing. Cho emphasized that South Korea is actively consulting with Washington and other parties to facilitate dialogue and ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
As the region prepares for the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, Cho remarked that a North Korea-U.S. summit could serve as a catalyst for breaking the current impasse. He reiterated South Korea's role as a 'pacemaker' in the dialogue process, aiming to support the U.S. in becoming a 'peacemaker.'
