A Russian delegation has arrived in Pyongyang to discuss disaster management cooperation.
On October 12, a delegation from Russia's emergency ministry visited Pyongyang to explore ways to enhance cooperation in disaster management. The delegation was led by Aleksandr Kurenkov, the minister of extraordinary situations, and was welcomed by Kim Chol-nam, North Korea's minister of disaster management.
This visit marks a continuation of diplomatic engagements between North Korea and Russia, with the two countries having previously signed agreements on specialist training and scientific cooperation. The Russian delegation had visited Pyongyang last July, where they inspected disaster prevention sites and discussed scientific collaboration.
North Korea, which frequently faces natural disasters such as floods, is seeking to bolster its response measures. The ongoing discussions indicate a strengthening relationship between Moscow and Pyongyang, particularly after recent high-level summits between their leaders in 2023 and 2024.
