North Korea has dismissed South Korea's hypersonic test claims, citing its own arms development as a necessity.
North Korea has publicly rejected South Korea's assertions regarding its recent hypersonic weapon test, escalating tensions between the two nations.
The North's response came after South Korea conducted its first test launch of a hypersonic glide vehicle on October 8, which it claimed was successful. However, North Korea questioned the validity of this success, pointing out the absence of burn marks on the vehicle's surface as evidence of failure.
In a statement, Kim Jong-sik, a senior official in North Korea's ruling Workers' Party, labeled South Korea's explanation as 'far-fetched,' arguing that no technology could prevent paint from burning off due to aerodynamic heating.
This exchange reflects the ongoing military rivalry, with North Korea justifying its arms buildup by citing South Korea's advancements in hypersonic technology as a threat. The situation is further complicated by recent incidents along the border, including a land mine explosion that injured South Korean soldiers, heightening the stakes in this already tense relationship.
As both Koreas continue to develop their military capabilities, the potential for further conflict remains a significant concern in the region.
