During a recent G20 meeting in Bangkok, South Korea's Finance Minister Lee Hyoung-il highlighted the urgent need for collaborative efforts to tackle global economic imbalances. This meeting took place alongside the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group, marking Lee's first significant international appearance since assuming office last month.

Lee stressed the importance of strengthening supply chain resilience, protecting vulnerable populations, and investing in future growth sectors. Participants at the meeting discussed various pressing issues, including global imbalances, debt challenges, and strategies to enhance financial stability.
Expressing gratitude to the United States for chairing this year's meeting, Lee reaffirmed South Korea's commitment to contributing to global economic stability and growth. He also participated in discussions with G7 finance ministers, advocating for comprehensive macroeconomic policies and structural reforms to address these global challenges.
