On November 7, 2026, a senior official from North Korea's ruling party, Kim Song-nam, held a high-level meeting with Chinese officials in Beijing. This meeting marks the third engagement since his arrival, highlighting the strengthening ties between the two nations amidst regional tensions.
Kim, a member of the Political Bureau of the Workers' Party of Korea, met Liu Haixing, head of the International Liaison Department of the Communist Party of China, at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation following a summit between Chinese President Xi Jinping and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in June.
During the meeting, Kim briefed Liu on the progress of North Korea's five-year plan and the successes in party-building efforts. Liu emphasized the significance of the visit for reinforcing bilateral relations.
In addition to Liu, Kim also met Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau, reaffirming North Korea's commitment to closer ties. Cai noted that Xi's earlier visit had added new significance to the relationship, which remains steadfast despite changing international dynamics.
These meetings come at a time when North Korea is seeking to bolster its diplomatic engagements, particularly as relations with Russia have intensified amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
