North Korea has dismissed US claims of its involvement in the $6.3 billion Binance hack, calling it a provocation.
North Korea has firmly rejected allegations from the United States regarding its involvement in the recent $6.3 billion hack of the cryptocurrency exchange Binance. The accusations were labeled a 'provocation' by Kim Yo Jong, the influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Kim Yo Jong criticized the US for what she described as a repetitive attempt to tarnish North Korea's image on the international stage. She argued that the US has a history of linking North Korea to cybercrime whenever significant incidents occur globally.
The hack, which led to unexpected movements of funds from Binance wallets, prompted the exchange to suspend all deposits and withdrawals. Other cryptocurrency firms also froze approximately $3 billion in assets due to the incident.
Despite the FBI attributing the cyberattack to North Korea, Kim Yo Jong asserted that the North Korean government opposes all forms of malicious cyber activities. She characterized the US accusations as a deliberate effort to undermine the dignity and national prestige of North Korea.
The situation continues to escalate amid rising tensions between North Korea and the US, with both sides exchanging harsh words over cyber activities and international relations.
