NCsoft has announced that its highly anticipated MMORPG, Aion 2, will officially launch in China during the second quarter of 2024. This announcement comes from Century Huatong, the parent company of Shengqu Games, which has secured the publishing rights for the game in China.
The launch of Aion 2 in China represents a major milestone for NCsoft as it continues to expand its international footprint. The game has already seen successful launches in South Korea and Taiwan, and this upcoming release will be the third regional rollout following a global launch that took place last month.
Huang Yi, vice president of Century Huatong, revealed the launch timeline during an investor meeting, emphasizing the company's positive outlook for Aion 2's performance in the Chinese market. The original Aion has amassed over 100 million registered users in China, indicating a strong potential for its sequel.
In July, NCsoft and Shengqu Games signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Shanghai, paving the way for Aion 2's entry into China. The game, known locally as 'Yongheng Zhi Ta 2' (Tower of Eternity 2), aims to replicate the success of its predecessor, which has been a staple in the Chinese gaming community since its launch in 2009.
With a robust initial response to the global version of Aion 2, which recorded over 400,000 peak concurrent users shortly after its release, NCsoft is optimistic about leveraging this momentum to achieve sustained growth in overseas markets, particularly in China.
