LG Innotek Co., a leading electronic components manufacturer in South Korea, announced a significant decline in its net profit for the third quarter of 2023. The company reported a 25.8% drop in net profit compared to the same period last year, attributing this decrease to fluctuations in the exchange rate.
For the July to September period, LG Innotek's net profit amounted to 95.2 billion won (approximately $71.9 million), down from 128.4 billion won a year earlier. The company explained that the depreciation of the Korean won against the U.S. dollar during the first half of the year adversely affected its profitability when purchasing raw materials.
Despite the decline in net profit, LG Innotek saw an increase in sales, which rose by 18.6% to reach a record high of 6.36 trillion won. The optical solutions division, which produces camera modules, was a significant contributor to this growth, with sales increasing by 20.6% year-on-year.
The company's operating profit also suffered, falling 53.4% to 94.8 billion won. However, the overall increase in sales across all business segments indicates a strong market demand for LG Innotek's products, particularly in the mobile device and automotive camera sectors.
As LG Innotek navigates these financial challenges, the impact of currency volatility remains a critical factor in its earnings outlook for the upcoming quarters.
