LG Electronics has announced a collaboration with Korea Water Resources Corp to implement smart factory technology at the Sihwa tidal power plant, the largest of its kind in the world. The partnership aims to enhance operational efficiency through AI-based solutions and digital transformation.
On October 22, the two companies signed a technical cooperation agreement in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province. This agreement includes plans to develop an AI tidal power plant and implement a lighthouse factory, which utilizes advanced technology to innovate production processes.
Key components of the project involve the demonstration of AI systems, digital twins, and robotics. LG Electronics will introduce a digital twin-based integrated operating system that mirrors real facilities in a virtual environment, allowing for real-time data analysis and predictive maintenance.
The initiative also aims to automate on-site operations using AI-driven robots for tasks such as facility inspections and equipment monitoring. This expansion into the energy sector marks a significant step for LG Electronics, as their smart factory solutions have previously focused on manufacturing and logistics.
Lee Seung-gi, head of LG Electronics Smart Factory Solution Center, emphasized the importance of applying smart factory capabilities to public infrastructure, stating that this collaboration will significantly enhance the efficiency and safety of operations at the Sihwa tidal power plant.
