President Lee Jae Myung is scheduled to hold a summit with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Seoul, focusing on enhancing economic cooperation between South Korea and Germany.
This meeting marks Merz's first visit to South Korea since he took office and is significant as it is the first visit by a German chancellor in three years. The summit will take place at Cheong Wa Dae, followed by a joint press statement and an official dinner.
During their discussions, Lee and Merz are expected to explore opportunities in future industries, including batteries, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence, as well as defense cooperation and regional issues.
A presidential spokesperson noted that this visit is anticipated to advance bilateral relations in a strategic and forward-looking manner. Merz will also participate in the 19th Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business during his two-day visit.
The leaders last met in June at the Group of Seven summit in France, making this their third official meeting since Merz assumed office.
