Hyundai Engineering is set to develop hybrid electrolysis technology to enhance hydrogen production from renewable sources.
Hyundai Engineering announced its commitment to advancing renewable energy technologies by launching a hybrid electrolysis plant initiative. This project aims to optimize hydrogen production in response to the fluctuations in renewable energy generation.
The company revealed that it will participate in a national project focused on developing a hybrid water electrolysis plant. This facility will be designed to adjust hydrogen output based on the availability of renewable energy, such as solar and wind.
The HMG Construction Technology Research Institute, part of Hyundai Engineering & Construction, will oversee the design and development of the plant's integrated control system. The goal is to create a comprehensive system that combines various components, including the electrolysis stack and hydrogen purification facilities, into a single operational unit.
Hyundai Engineering's previous projects, such as the water electrolysis-based hydrogen production base in Boryeong and a 5 MW PEM water electrolysis system in Jeju, have laid the groundwork for this new initiative. The company aims to leverage its existing engineering capabilities to enhance its hydrogen production projects both domestically and internationally.
A representative from Hyundai Engineering stated, "We will strengthen our competitiveness in the water electrolysis sector by integrating our technology and experience from this project with our EPC capabilities." The company is focused on enhancing its core technologies across the entire hydrogen value chain, from production to utilization.
