The Bank of Korea reports positive trends in corporate profits and debts for 2025.

The Bank of Korea (BOK) has announced improvements in corporate profits and debts for the year 2025, indicating a potential recovery in South Korea's economy. This positive shift comes as companies adapt to the challenges posed by the post-pandemic landscape.

According to the BOK's data, corporate sales growth slowed to 2.4% in 2025, down from 3.7% the previous year. This data reflects a review of approximately 983,000 non-financial firms that are subject to external audits. Despite the slowdown in sales, the profitability of these companies has shown a notable increase.

In the manufacturing sector, sales grew by 2.4%, a decline from a 4.6% increase in 2024. Non-manufacturing sectors also experienced a slowdown, with sales rising by 2.3%, down from 2.9% the previous year. However, the operating profit ratio to sales improved to 5.2%, the highest since 2021.

Additionally, the average debt-to-equity ratio for firms decreased to 116.2%, the lowest level since 2019. The overall interest coverage ratio for all companies rose significantly to 292.7%, indicating better financial health among South Korean corporations. These trends suggest a cautiously optimistic outlook for the country's economic recovery.
