The agreement was signed by South Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and Indonesia's Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency during the Halal Summit 20 in Depok, Indonesia. The memorandum of understanding (MOU) is expected to facilitate the entry of Korean companies into the Indonesian market, which is one of the largest halal markets globally.
Halal certification serves as an official verification process that ensures products comply with Islamic law. Indonesia is set to expand its mandatory halal certification requirements, which will now include various food items and cosmetics starting next month.
This agreement follows a prior commitment made during South Korean President Lee Jae Myung's visit to Indonesia in March, where both countries agreed to elevate their relationship to a 'special comprehensive strategic partnership.' The recent developments signify a growing collaboration in trade and cultural exchanges between South Korea and Indonesia.
