North Korea recently commemorated the 81st founding anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea with a subdued celebration. The event, attended by leader Kim Jong-un, featured patriotic songs, acrobatics, and dance performances at the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium.
The Korean Central News Agency reported that Kim expressed satisfaction with the performances, which aimed to reinforce loyalty to both the party and himself. Notably, Kim's family members were also present, alongside foreign diplomats and local citizens.
This year's celebration was significantly smaller compared to previous anniversaries, which often included grand military parades and large-scale public displays. The reduced scale reflects the ongoing economic difficulties faced by the country, exacerbated by international sanctions.
In past years, North Korea has marked milestone anniversaries with major events, but this year’s more modest approach indicates a shift in priorities amid economic constraints. Despite the challenges, Kim emphasized the importance of party loyalty and national rejuvenation during the event.
