North Korea has inaugurated a new bridge with China to enhance trade.

North Korea has officially opened a new cross-border bridge connecting its border city of Sinuiju with China's Dandong. This development, reported by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), is expected to significantly bolster economic ties between the two nations.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on October 15, 2026, attended by senior officials from both countries. North Korean Premier Pak Thae-song and Chinese Premier Li Qiang delivered congratulatory messages via video link, emphasizing the bridge's role in strengthening bilateral relations.

The Amnok River Bridge, also known as the Yalu River Bridge in China, spans 3,026 meters and was completed in 2014 with an investment of approximately $310 million from China. Its opening had been delayed for years due to North Korea's incomplete infrastructure on its side, including connecting roads and customs facilities.

This new bridge is anticipated to facilitate increased trade and movement of people between North Korea and China, easing congestion on the existing Friendship Bridge, which has been the primary crossing since 1943. The inauguration aligns with recent efforts by both nations to enhance their strategic partnership following a summit between Kim Jong-un and Xi Jinping earlier this year.
