North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has recently overseen the launch of a hypersonic missile, highlighting the necessity of enhancing the country's military deterrent capabilities. The missile was launched toward the East Sea during a dawn firing drill, as reported by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
During the launch, Kim emphasized the importance of demonstrating North Korea's military readiness and the reliability of its offensive capabilities. He stated, "We must continue our responsible efforts nonstop to constantly and repeatedly make the enemy recognize the reliability and fatality of our strategic offensive means."
The missile, which reportedly flew over 700 kilometers, is believed to be capable of changing its flight path at low altitudes, raising concerns among neighboring countries. This test comes amid heightened tensions following a mine blast in the Demilitarized Zone that injured South Korean soldiers, which South Korea attributed to North Korea.
In response to the missile launch, South Korea's defense ministry condemned the action as a violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a robust defense posture alongside the United States. The ministry urged North Korea to cease actions that escalate tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
