North Korea Showcases Hwasong-20 ICBM at New Defense Museum

North Korea has recently showcased its Hwasong-20 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) along with various strategic weapons at the newly inaugurated National Defense Revolution Museum. The museum's opening coincided with the 81st anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea, celebrated on October 10.

The Hwasong-20, which is capable of reaching nearly any location on the U.S. mainland, was prominently displayed alongside its mobile launcher. This missile was first introduced during a military parade last year, where it was described as the 'most powerful nuclear strategic weapon system' by North Korean media.

In addition to the Hwasong-20, the museum featured a range of advanced military equipment, including submarine-launched ballistic missiles, drones, and super-large multiple rocket launchers. Notably, a diagram illustrating the missile's capabilities was also presented, indicating its potential range extending to regions such as the Middle East and South America.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, who attended the museum's unveiling, referred to it as a 'revolutionary treasure' and emphasized the importance of developing a robust defense industry. He stated that this initiative is crucial for the nation’s self-defense and reflects the strength of the North Korean people.

Experts suggest that this exhibition serves as a demonstration of North Korea's military capabilities, potentially aimed at strengthening its negotiating position with the United States as dialogue prospects resurface. With U.S. President Donald Trump expressing interest in meeting Kim during an upcoming trip to China, the timing of this showcase appears strategic.
