North Korea has opened its annual autumn trade fair in Pyongyang, as reported by state media. The event, which began on October 26, features over 130 companies from various countries including China, Mongolia, Bangladesh, and Thailand. With the theme 'Common development and prosperity', the fair showcases more than 10,000 products ranging from electronics to foodstuffs.
Yun Jong-ho, the Minister of External Economic Relations, attended the opening ceremony and emphasized the need to expand economic ties globally. He stated that North Korea aims to engage in economic relations based on 'complete equality and reciprocity'.
The trade fair is part of North Korea's strategy to attract foreign investment and enhance trade, particularly in light of the ongoing international sanctions that have severely impacted its economy. These fairs are held biannually, in spring and autumn, to facilitate economic exchanges and showcase domestic industries.
Despite the restrictions, North Korea continues to seek ways to sustain its economy through international partnerships and trade exhibitions, reflecting its resilience in the face of adversity.
