LG Display has introduced its innovative maskless 8G OLED process, FLiPP, enhancing productivity significantly.

On October 11, 2026, LG Display announced the launch of its next-generation maskless 8G OLED process known as FLiPP. This innovative technology eliminates the need for fine metal masks (FMM), a crucial component in traditional OLED manufacturing, leading to a remarkable 24% increase in productivity.

FLiPP utilizes an entire 8th-generation glass substrate without cutting, allowing for improved OLED brightness and lifespan. The technology forms red, green, and blue OLED pixels without the constraints of FMM, which typically hampers production efficiency due to sagging issues in larger substrates.

By employing photolithography technology similar to that used in semiconductor manufacturing, FLiPP enhances the aperture ratio from 42% to 65%, resulting in a 55% improvement. This advancement allows for brightness increases of 1.6 times and a lifespan extension of 2.4 times compared to conventional methods, while also reducing power consumption by 13%.

LG Display's Chief Technology Officer, Choi Young-seok, stated, "FLiPP condenses the expertise LG Display has accumulated over 22 years in OLED research," highlighting its potential as a significant technological barrier for competitors.

The company plans to first implement FLiPP in IT OLED panels, such as tablets and laptops, with future expansions to wearables and TVs. The versatility of FLiPP allows for the production of panels across various sizes, from small wearables to large televisions exceeding 100 inches.
