LG Display is leveraging its FLiPP technology to enhance IT panel performance while lowering costs.
LG Display is making significant strides with its innovative FLiPP technology, aiming to transform the production of OLED panels for laptops and monitors. This mask-free process is designed to enhance screen performance and reduce manufacturing costs, thereby increasing the adoption of OLED technology in information technology devices.
The company held an online seminar where key executives, including Chief Technology Officer Choi Young-seok, discussed the operational principles and benefits of FLiPP. By eliminating the need for a fine metal mask (FMM), FLiPP improves the aperture ratio of panels, allowing for brighter displays and lower power consumption.
FLiPP technology enables the creation of RGB subpixels without the constraints of traditional methods, which often lead to defects and inefficiencies. The new process allows for a 55% increase in aperture ratio for laptop panels, significantly enhancing light emission and overall display quality.
Moreover, LG Display plans to utilize its extensive experience in mass-producing OLEDs for televisions to streamline the production of IT panels. The company is optimistic about the potential of FLiPP to lower investment burdens and improve operational efficiency in the competitive display market.
