Na Hong-jin's big-budget sci-fi survival thriller "Hope" tightened its grip on South Korea's box office over the weekend of July 17-19, pulling in $11.3 million from more than 1.5 million admissions and commanding over 66% of total market share, according to local industry data.

The film, which reunites Na with the tense, high-stakes storytelling that made his earlier work internationally acclaimed, features a striking international ensemble cast. Korean stars Hwang Jung-min and Jung Ho-yeon share the screen with Hollywood names Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander, a pairing that has helped fuel curiosity both at home and abroad.

Since its release, "Hope" has amassed a cumulative $16 million at the domestic box office, a strong showing for a genre film in a market where local audiences often gravitate toward comedies and dramas over large-scale science-fiction productions.
