Hyundai Motor is on track to surpass 10 million vehicle sales in India this year.
Hyundai Motor is poised to achieve a significant milestone as its cumulative vehicle sales in India are expected to exceed 10 million by the end of this year. This achievement comes nearly three decades after the company began local sales in India with the Santro minicar in 1998.
As of the third quarter of 2023, Hyundai had sold approximately 9.88 million vehicles in India, according to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). The company has introduced a variety of models in the Indian market, including popular hatchbacks like the i10 and i20, as well as SUVs such as the Creta and the Alcazar.
In recent years, Hyundai's annual sales in India have shown remarkable growth, surpassing 500,000 units in 2016 and reaching 605,433 units in 2024. Notably, last year, the company sold 398,937 SUVs, which accounted for about 70% of its total sales in the country.
At the 2026 CEO Investor Day, Hyundai's CEO, Jose Munoz, expressed the company's ambition to increase the share of SUVs in its sales to 80% by 2030. With a combined annual production capacity of 1 million vehicles at its plants in Chennai and Pune, Hyundai plans to expand this capacity to over 1.1 million by 2030, further solidifying its position in the Indian automotive market.
