Hyundai Glovis has secured multiple shipping deals with Chinese battery and automobile manufacturers, deepening its push into overseas logistics as sea shipments of China-made vehicles have nearly doubled over three years.
Hyundai Glovis, the logistics arm of the Hyundai Motor Group, has signed a string of new shipping contracts with battery and vehicle makers in China, the company said, marking a fresh step in its drive to diversify revenue beyond its traditional affiliate business.
Under the newly signed agreements, Hyundai Glovis will transport batteries and finished vehicles produced in China to destinations across Europe and Central Asia. The deals add to a growing roster of non-affiliate clients the shipping and logistics firm has courted in recent years as it looks to reduce its reliance on cargo from Hyundai Motor and Kia.
The contracts come amid a sharp rise in demand for sea transport of Chinese-made vehicles. According to the company, the volume of China-origin vehicles shipped by sea has surged 93 percent over the past three years, as Chinese automakers and battery producers increasingly look abroad to sell their products in Europe, Central Asia and other overseas markets.
Hyundai Glovis has been steadily building partnerships with global manufacturers outside its own corporate family, positioning itself as a logistics provider capable of handling the complex, large-scale shipments required by battery and automotive exporters. Winning business from Chinese battery and vehicle makers gives the firm a foothold in one of the world's fastest-growing export logistics markets, as China's electric vehicle and battery industries continue to expand their global footprint.
The latest contracts are expected to bolster Hyundai Glovis's overseas revenue base and support its broader strategy of client diversification. Industry watchers note that shipping companies with strong ties to automakers are increasingly competing for business tied to the global EV supply chain, as battery and vehicle exports out of China continue to climb.
Hyundai Glovis has not disclosed the financial value of the newly signed contracts or named the specific Chinese companies involved.
