Hanwha Systems has won a contract to develop a SAR microsatellite constellation for South Korea.

Hanwha Systems Co. has successfully secured a contract to develop a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) microsatellite constellation, aimed at enhancing South Korea's national security and disaster response capabilities.

The project, commissioned by the state-run Agency for Defense Development (ADD), involves collaboration with the Ministry of National Defense, the Korea Aerospace Administration (KASA), and the Korea Coast Guard. This initiative is designed to improve surveillance of security threats and natural disasters across the Korean Peninsula and adjacent waters.

SAR satellites are particularly advantageous as they can capture detailed images of land and sea regardless of weather conditions or time of day. The deployment of a constellation of these small satellites will enable more frequent monitoring of critical areas and expedite intelligence gathering.

Hanwha Systems has a proven track record in this field, having previously supplied SAR sensors and data links for South Korea's military reconnaissance satellites. This new project is expected to further strengthen the country's position in the technology and defense sectors, contributing positively to economic growth.
