Battery ETFs have shown remarkable performance this month amid rising investor interest.
According to recent market data, exchange-traded funds (ETFs) focused on secondary battery companies have emerged as the top performers in the South Korean stock market this October.
The Korea Exchange (KRX) reported that eight out of the ten best-performing ETFs this month were related to the secondary battery sector. The KODEX Secondary Battery Industry Leverage ETF, managed by Samsung Asset Management, led the pack with a return of 19.94%.
Following closely was the TIGER KRX Second Battery Top10 Leverage ETF from Mirae Asset Global Investments, which recorded an 18.45% gain. Analysts attribute this surge in interest to the anticipated growth in demand for battery technologies, particularly driven by advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) data centers.
Kim Gwi-yeon, an analyst at Daishin Securities, noted that the momentum in orders is expected to translate into share price growth next year, bolstered by improvements in sales and profitability within the energy storage system (ESS) sector. This trend reflects a broader investor confidence in the energy sector as it adapts to new technological demands.
