The ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office has revised its growth forecast for South Korea to 3.3%.

The ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) has announced an increase in its growth projection for South Korea's economy, now estimating a 3.3% growth for 2026. This adjustment reflects a positive shift from the previous forecast of 3.1%, indicating a stronger outlook for the nation's economic performance.

In its quarterly update report released on October 1, AMRO did not specify the reasons behind the revision but highlighted the resilience of South Korea's economy amidst global uncertainties. The organization also projected a growth rate of 2.7% for 2027, up from its earlier estimate of 2.2%.

Inflation forecasts were also adjusted, with AMRO predicting a 2.7% rise in consumer prices for 2026, slightly higher than the previous estimate of 2.6%. For 2027, the inflation forecast was lowered from 2.4% to 2.3%.

This optimistic outlook aligns with recent assessments from other economic organizations, including the OECD, which raised its growth forecast for South Korea to 3.7%, citing robust exports as a driving factor. Similarly, the Asian Development Bank has noted strong corporate earnings and export performance, particularly in the context of the AI boom.

However, AMRO cautioned that potential slowdowns in AI-related demand and rising costs due to geopolitical tensions could pose challenges ahead, highlighting the need for continued vigilance in economic planning.
