AMRO has increased its growth forecast for South Korea's economy to 3.3% for 2023.
The ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) has updated its economic growth projection for South Korea, raising it from 3.1% to 3.3% for the year 2023. This revision reflects a more optimistic outlook for the South Korean economy amid fluctuating global market conditions.
In its quarterly report, AMRO did not provide specific reasons for the increase but indicated that the overall economic environment appears to be improving. For 2027, the organization predicts a growth rate of 2.7%, up from its previous estimate of 2.2%.
The report also touched on inflation, forecasting a 2.7% rise in consumer prices for 2026, slightly higher than the earlier projection of 2.6%. For the following year, the inflation rate is expected to decrease to 2.3% from a previous 2.4% forecast.
Other economic institutions, such as the OECD and ADB, have also raised their growth forecasts for South Korea, citing strong exports and production as key drivers. The OECD recently projected a 3.7% growth for 2026, while the ADB revised its forecast to 3.2%.
Despite these positive indicators, AMRO cautioned about potential challenges, including a slowdown in AI-related demand and rising costs due to geopolitical tensions. The organization emphasized the need for vigilance regarding inflationary pressures and structural challenges facing the region.
